Bremerton Police Booking Releases

The Bremerton Police Department gives public access to records under the Washington Public Records Act, found at RCW 42.56. The City Clerk is the city Public Records Officer. The Clerk oversees all city records work. For Bremerton booking releases and other police records, the city has a Support Services Lieutenant and a Records Supervisor in the Bremerton PD who act as the points of contact.

Any city staff member who gets a record request must route it to the Public Records Officer or the right designee. The Records Supervisor is the main contact for the public when asking the Bremerton PD for police records. The Supervisor also makes sure the department follows the law on disclosure.

Note: The Bremerton PD does not put a live jail roster on its own site. Most live Bremerton booking releases data sits with Kitsap County, since the county runs the jail.

Kitsap County Jail Booking Releases

Bremerton sits in Kitsap County. The Kitsap County Sheriff runs the jail and posts a live In Custody page. Use the page at incustody.kitsap.gov to find someone in jail right now. The page shows the name, the booking date, the charges, and the bail amount. You can also use the Kitsap booking search query tool to look up older bookings by name or date.

The Kitsap County Sheriff's main page is at kitsap.gov/sheriff. The page has the office address, phone, and a link to the records unit. The sheriff handles records requests for jail data, deputy reports, and other county police files.

For older county records you can visit the Kitsap County Public Records Center. The center lets you submit a request, review the response, and talk with county staff. Some of the data on Bremerton booking releases will sit with Kitsap County rather than the city.

The Kitsap County Public Records page serves Bremerton residents who need older booking data.

State Sources for Bremerton Booking Releases

Several state tools help fill in the gaps. The Washington DOC Incarcerated Search shows people held in state prison. Use it when a person has moved past the Kitsap County Jail. The DOC also runs a Wanted for Arrest page with active warrants. Both tools are free.

The Washington State Patrol runs WATCH, a paid tool for state level criminal history. Use the WSP Criminal History page to order a report. Results show convictions across the state. WATCH does not pull pending Bremerton booking releases. For pending case info you still need the Bremerton PD or the Kitsap County Sheriff.

The free VINELink tool sends an alert when an inmate is released. Sign up online with the inmate's name. The tool works for Bremerton arrests routed through the Kitsap County Jail.

Statutes and Bremerton Records Limits

State law sets the rules. Under RCW 70.48.100, jail records are confidential. The law lists the few items the jail can share. These items are the name of the arrestee, the date and time of booking, the reason for booking, the date and time of release, and the reason for release. All other jail data stays private.

The Public Records Act under RCW 42.56 covers the rest of the police records held by the Bremerton PD. The Act forces the city to respond in five business days. The city may need more time to gather the records, but it must say so up front. Active investigation files are exempt. The Act also blocks the city from giving out a list of names for any commercial purpose.
