City of Des Moines Records Process

The City of Des Moines handles all public records requests in a fair and uniform way. The city gives the public the right to inspect and copy records under RCW 42.56, the state Public Records Act. Records that are exempt under the law or under another statute are held back. Anyone can submit a request to any city department by using the public records request form, which is sent to the Public Records Officer.

Visit the Des Moines records information page for the form and the policy. The city does not maintain an index of every city record. The City Council found that an index would be unduly burdensome and would interfere with city operations.

The Des Moines records request page hosts the public records form for booking releases.

Visit the Des Moines Police Department page for the full list of services. The page links to the records request portal and to the crime reporting tool. Police records get routed through the city Public Records Officer, but you can also reach the police records desk direct.

SCORE Jail Booking Releases

The SCORE jail is at 20817 17th Avenue South, Des Moines, WA 98198. SCORE stands for South Correctional Entity. SCORE holds inmates for several South King County cities, including Des Moines. So a Des Moines arrest is most likely to land at the SCORE jail rather than the King County Jail in downtown Seattle. You can request public records from SCORE by email at publicrecords@SCOREjail.org. You can also call the Public Records Officer at 206-257-6200 during business hours.

Use the SCORE inmate lookup at jils.scorejail.org to find someone in the SCORE jail. The lookup shows the name, the booking date, the charges, and the bail amount. State law under RCW 70.48.100 sets the rules on what jail data SCORE can share. The only items SCORE can give out are the name of the arrestee, the date and time of booking, the reason for booking, the date and time of release, and the reason for release.
